Adult Art Workshops — Spring 2013 Session
Art Access is pleased to announce its Spring 2013 Adult ArtWorkshops. Come together at Art Access Gallery and join other art-minded adultsto experience a day of creating art, guided by professional artists. Each yearthis series of workshops offers a variety of art medium and an opportunity todevelop new art skills.
WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Tuition fee: $50 (covers art supplies, along with a lightlunch)

Each workshop is limited to 12 participants, so pleaseregister early and limit your enrollment to no more than two workshops.

About Face — Ceramic Wall Sculpture
Workshop Schedule:Saturday, March 9, 2013
Teaching Artist: AnneGregerson
Has it been too long since you played in the mud? We'lllearn about proportions, facial features and basic handbuilding techniques forclay as we each create a three-dimensional wall sculpture of a face. We'll lookat ancient and contemporary examples of clay faces ranging from simple to morecomplex. Underglazes will be available for adding color to completed pieces,which will be fired and returned to Art Access for pick up two weeks after theworkshop. Bring a sketchbook and think about personal symbols you might like toinclude. All skill levels are welcome!

Anne Gregerson has studied at the Tucson Museum of ArtSchool and earned a BFA in fine art with an emphasis in sculpture from BYU. Asa certified K-12 educator she has taught art for several years in Utah schools.She exhibits her work in regional and national shows, and is represented by"A Gallery" in SLC and "Marshall-LeKae Gallery" inScottsdale, Arizona.
Figure Drawing — From Life, Memory and Imagination

Figure drawing—a workshop to explore the aspects ofassimilating the idea of the human figure in artwork. We'll engage in drawing the figure from life(using an undraped figure model), memory, and imagination. We'll do some talking about the verydifferent worlds of observation, memory, and imagination, but mostly we will bedrawing all day!

Brian Kershisnik grew up living on various continents acrossthe globe—often drawing to entertain himself but never imagining peopleactually did this for a living. Settling back in Utah after high school hestudied general architecture and ceramics until he was introduced to paint—whichchanged everything. Brian now paints at his studio in an old dance hall inKanosh, Utah. His work has been exhibited and collected throughout Utah, theU.S. and across the globe.
Illuminations — Fused Glass
Workshop Schedule:Saturday, April 13
Teaching Artist: Sarinda Jones
Learn the fundamentals of fusing glass in this hands-onclass. We'll begin with exercises in glass cutting—including design basics,straight and curved cuts, use of tools, studio safety, and technique. Then, usingyour new found skills, you will design and create a fused sculpture thatilluminates the simple beauty of glass. Pieces will be fired at the artist'sstudio and returned to Art Access for students to pick up later.

Sarinda Jones, a kiln-formed glass artist, has a backgroundin fine art and art history. She has studied at the internationally renownedPilchuck Glass School and at North Lands Creative Glass in Scotland. As anaward-winning artist, Sarinda has shown her work internationally and has beencommissioned to create a variety of fused glass pieces.
Encaustic Painting — An Introduction
Time: 10 AM - 4 PM each day
This workshop will be held at the artist's studio: 666 West100 South in Salt Lake City.
Tuition is $100 for two days, plus a $20 special materialsfee.Registration is limited to 8 participants.

Discover the luminous and translucent quality of encausticpainting—learning the basics of an ancient painting technique that uses hotbeeswax mixed with resin and pigment. Popular for use with collage materials,image transfers, and photography, encaustic painting involves applying layersof molten wax to a support surface and fusing each additional layer to theprevious layer with heat. We'll each complete one or more small paintingsduring the workshop and will come away knowing how to prepare surfaces, melt paint,mix colors, create transfers and collages, and more!
Jeff Juhlin, a nationally recognized artist, has beenworking with encaustic for over 14 years. His work has been included innumerous national exhibitions and has been featured in several publications.Jeff holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and has receivedfellowships from the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and the Moulin Au NefAuvillar, France. He is represented by galleries in Salt Lake City, Scottsdaleand Denver.
